Peter Tovar learned to paint while serving in Vietnam. He describes days spent as fighter mechanic and nights with sketchpads. Upon returning to the states, Peter became a founding artist with Self-Help Graphics, the iconic East Los Angeles Gallery and center for a nascent Chicano Art Movement. His art over 40 years has been featured in countless shows, book covers and commissions. The cover art for "The Good Lessons: A Teaching Life with Gangs, Delinquents & Troubled Teens" was created for the original "Peace in the Streets: Breaking the Cycle of Gang Violence" and continues to be used in this revised and updated version of that book.
